About the artist
Danny Summer, original name 吳志坤, a Hong Kong male singer and actor, was born on December 8, 1952. A 2025 report in Ming Pao writes that Danny Summer is known as "Father of Hong Kong Rock". In 1965 Danny Summer graduated from the morning section of 九龍船塢紀念學校, went on to 旺角勞工子弟學校, finished only Form One, and in Form Two left school because of a dislike of study and started work.
In 1974 Danny Summer played drums at the Merlin Hotel, was spotted by TVB producer 劉韻芝, and was invited to perform on "歡樂今宵". In 1979 a first record, "童年時", was released. With a husky voice Danny Summer sang "永不放棄", "交叉點", and "车站", a collaboration with 蘇芮, among other songs, and also received Best Newcomer among 華僑日報's top ten singers and best-newcomer prizes. In 1981 Japanese guitarist Kazuo Takeda invited Danny Summer to join the band "Creation" and perform in Japan, and, so that fans could remember the name, gave the name "Danny Summer".
From 1980 to 1996 Danny Summer released albums including "天堂夢" (1980), "夏韶聲" (1983), "不顧一切警告" (1984), "I Remember……" (1985), "仍在等待你" (1986), "说不出的未来" (1988), "你喚醒我的靈魂" (1989), "酸雨" (1991), "今天昨天" (1994) and "一個夢兒" (1996). During that time, in 1985, the song "空凳" won the first Asia-Pacific Popular Song Contest.
Danny Summer has also appeared on screen, including "開心華之里" (1993, as 朱志華) and "刑事偵緝檔案" (1995, as 喬楚); in 1998, in "烈火雄心", Danny Summer played senior fire-captain 何星.
In 1998 Danny Summer covered other people's songs and released the album "諳", and for years after that released cover albums under the name "諳", including "諳2" (2000), "諳3" (2006) and "諳5" (2015). The Chinese Wikipedia records that after "諳" came out Danny Summer was welcomed by audiophile listeners, and that releasing under the name "諳" stopped only in 2015, when the fifth volume's sales fell and word of mouth was poor. Outside the series there are also the albums "A Change Is Gonna Come" (1999) and "Love Me: Danny Summer Sings Elvis" (2004). On November 3 and 4, 2000, Danny Summer held two shows of "夏韶聲搖擺心窩演唱會" at the Hong Kong Coliseum, the first solo concert there since debut; in 2003 the album "Danny Summer Live In Concert 2000 (夏韶聲搖擺心窩演唱會)" was released.
Danny Summer is keen on looking into UFO cases, and in 2011 released the original comic "天眼"; on November 30, 2013, "「天眼」第七類接觸講唱會2013" was held at Star Hall, Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre.
On June 7 and 8, 2018, Danny Summer, together with former 藍戰士 bassist 單立文, former Beyond guitarist Paul Wong, and 太極樂隊 guitarists 鄧建明 and 恭碩良, formed "Hong Kong Band" and held two shows of "搖滾大俠奏" at the Hong Kong Coliseum. In an interview Ming Pao published in June 2025, Danny Summer said that using "Last" as the concert theme was not a farewell to the music scene, only that, standing on this stage, it might be the last time to share feelings with everyone. The Chinese Wikipedia separately records that Danny Summer announced retirement "from the second half of 2025". On August 2, 2025, two shows of "夏韶聲LAST SUMMER演唱會2025" opened at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
