About the artist
Eason Chan, born July 27, 1974, is a Hong Kong male singer and actor. After graduating from 聖若瑟小學, Eason Chan was allocated to 聖璐琦書院 for Form 1; from Form 2 onward, together with an elder brother, received a government subsidy to study at Dauntsey's School in the United Kingdom; father 陳裘大 was a senior civil servant.
After graduating from secondary school in 1993, Eason Chan entered Kingston University to study architecture and music, and during that time obtained a Grade 8 vocal certificate from 英國皇家音樂學院.
In 1995, returning to Hong Kong during a holiday, Eason Chan entered the 14th New Talent Singing Awards and won the championship, then abandoned studies and joined Capital Artists. Miriam Yeung recalled that the day after New Talent, 吳雨 invited Miriam Yeung together with Eason Chan and Edmond Leung to karaoke, and at the gathering they saw Andy Hui, William So and Dicky Cheung. After What's Music in Taiwan signed Eason Chan, the first Mandarin album "一滴眼淚" was released. On January 16, 2002 "THE EASY RIDE" was released; on July 25 of the same year "The Line-Up" was released with a bonus VCD, and on July 26 there was also the VCD "大個唱".
In 1998 the album "我的快樂時代" was released, and in 1999 "天佑愛人" was released.
Eason Chan later moved from Capital Artists to Emperor Entertainment. Composer Chan Fai Young recalled that when the transfer took place the two had just finished working together on "美麗有罪" and "黑夜不再來"; to meet the new company's demands, Eason Chan wanted Chan Fai Young to write a song more commercial than before, so Chan Fai Young asked "how can one even make a song that is more K", then discussed with 林夕 writing a song that contained many song titles, and the arrangement of "K歌之王" put in elements of 33 songs. Chan Fai Young also mentioned that one idea was to write an extremely difficult song for Eason Chan, so the song in performance is like an emotional roller coaster. The 2000 Cantonese album "打得火熱" included "K歌之王".
The same year Eason Chan appeared in the film "薰衣草", directed and written by 葉錦鴻, and with that film received a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 20th Hong Kong Film Awards. The following year Eason Chan starred in "幽靈人間", directed by 許鞍華.
In 2003 Eason Chan won Best Mandarin Male Singer at the 14th Golden Melody Awards, and because of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) did not attend the awards ceremony.
Under a personal name Eason Chan established the production company EASmusic, which took part in producing some songs on the albums; Eason Chan later announced that the in-house brand EAS Music had signed its first artist, 郭偉亮.
"U87" was the first album after leaving Emperor Entertainment and moving to Cinepoly; about 500 days had passed without a record release. It was issued by Universal Music in 2005. The album title was taken from the recording-microphone model Eason Chan often used; Eason Chan said that model most clearly brought out the character of the voice. The creative team included 林夕, Wyman Wong, Eric Kwok, C. Y. Kong, Mark Lui, and 梁榮駿.
In October 2007 "Moving On Stage 1演唱會" was held at the Hong Kong Coliseum; tickets sold out within hours of going on public sale, and further shows were later added several times to 16 in total; the styling was designed by Wyman Wong.
On June 30, 2008 the Mandarin album "不想放手" was released. On September 23, 2009 the Mandarin album "上五樓的快活" was released; the album title came from the recording studios then used in Hong Kong and Taiwan both being on the fifth floor.
The 2010 "DUO陳奕迅2010演唱會" ran for eighteen consecutive shows; the final show lasted a full four hours until 12:50 a.m., and the organizer was fined 200,000 for overtime.
In 2011 the dual-disc Cantonese and Mandarin EP "Stranger Under My Skin" was released, including the Mandarin lead single "樂園" sung with 黃韻玲, and the English song "My Private Party" written by 舒文.
The 2012 new song "重口味", made with Swing and Wyman Wong, took an eighties nostalgic direction. The same year a music production company was set up; Eason Chan said company matters would still be discussed with Universal.
Six film songs sung by Eason Chan were nominated in succession for Best Original Film Song at the Hong Kong Film Awards: "黑夜不再來" ("十二夜", music by Chan Fai Young, lyrics by 林夕) was nominated at the 20th; "明年今日" ("賤精先生", music by 陳小霞, lyrics by 林夕) and "你會不會" ("幽靈人間II之鬼味人間", music by Eason Chan, lyrics by 林夕) were both nominated at the 22nd; "兄弟", composed by Eason Chan with lyrics by Andy Lau and sung as a duet with Andy Lau, was nominated at the 27th; "暴風雨" ("暴瘋語", music by 高世章, lyrics by 岑偉宗) was nominated at the 34th; "讓我留在你身邊" ("擺渡人", music and lyrics by 唐汉霄) was nominated at the 36th. Eason Chan was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 45th Golden Horse Awards with the film "破事兒".
In 2014 the Mandarin album "rice & shine米‧閃" was released, and on June 27, 2015 at the 26th Golden Melody Awards for popular music, held at Taipei Arena (台北小巨蛋), that album brought another Best Mandarin Male Singer award.
At the 29th Golden Melody Awards Eason Chan won Best Mandarin Male Singer for the third time, and with "C’mon in~" won Album of the Year.
In 2020, with the management company, Eason Chan held the charity concert "Live is so much better with Music Eason Chan Charity Concert" for 香港現場演出及製作行業協會. Before the concert was held, the association's "香港演制抗疫基金" had already raised about five million Hong Kong dollars; the fund later announced that through Yan Chai Hospital it would successively disburse grants to eligible members who had passed review, with each able to receive eight thousand Hong Kong dollars.
In 2023 the album "CHIN UP!" was released, produced by Eason Chan, a physical album after a five-year gap, with the eight songs' lyrics written by eight lyricists respectively.
On August 10, 2025, the 182nd and final show of the "FEAR and DREAMS" world tour concluded in Macau; the final show closed with a self-accompanied performance of the debut work "時代曲".
In October of the same year, when interviewed, Eason Chan spoke about experiences with anxiety disorder, said medication had already been taken for two years, and said the cause was the concert tour.
