About the artist

Fish Leong, a Malaysian female singer, birth name 梁翠萍, has ancestral roots in Foshan, Guangdong, and was born on June 16, 1978, in Bahau, Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. According to the Chinese Wikipedia, the stage name uses "静茹" because Fish Leong's mother felt the birth name sounded unpleasant in Cantonese, and the English stage name Fish was chosen because, in Cantonese, 茹 is pronounced the same as the word for fish.

In 1996 Fish Leong placed third in the final of "海螺新韵奖", a folk-song writing contest in Malaysia, and so had a chance to be heard for the first time on a compilation released by Rock Records (Malaysia), with the song "期待". Fish Leong was not on the recommendation list at first; after hearing the voice, Jonathan Lee was interested and asked Fish Leong to audition in Singapore; after Jonathan Lee signed Fish Leong, Fish Leong flew to Taiwan in October 1997 and began recording and planning the album. In September 1999 Fish Leong released the first album "一夜長大". At 劉若英's invitation Fish Leong sang harmony on "後來" and duetted with 劉若英 on "Love", and both songs are on 劉若英's 2000 album "我等你". In 2000 the album "勇氣" was released, and the music video of the title song was nominated the next year for Best Music Video at the 12th Golden Melody Awards.
