Gin Lee (English name Jeanie Lee Hang Ngai) is a Malaysian Hong Kong female singer, stage name Gin Lee, born August 26, 1987. The Chinese Wikipedia records that Gin Lee is known for a solid and steady singing skill.
The ancestral home is Dongguan, Guangdong. Gin Lee was born in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia, lived for six years in the old home of 三合港, Johor, and came from a comfortably-off musical family. The father was a band leader and drummer. The mother had been a nightclub female singer.
In 2009 a first album, "ONE & ONLY", was released in Malaysia. Most of the lyrics on the album are Gin Lee's work, and the singing career opened from there. In 2010 Gin Lee went in turn to Taiwan and Hong Kong to enter the television music talent shows "超級偶像4" and "超級巨聲2".
In 2011 Gin Lee signed with 博美娛樂 and formally debuted in the Hong Kong scene, then moved to Hong Kong. The same year, on BMA Records, the Cantonese debut was completed with the EP "Here I Come".
In July 2012 the album of the same name, "Gin Lee", came out. The two lead songs, "Falling" and "今天終於一人回家", reached number one on the pop chart one after the other. The latter was also shortlisted to the last five of "最佳女歌手演繹" at the "CASH金帆音樂獎". The Chinese Wikipedia records that it became an early signature work. The album was released on July 30, 2012. The second-wave lead song was "1st Date". The same year Gin Lee received the 2012 Metro Radio Hits overseas-section newcomer prize.
On November 13, 2013 "Ginetic" came out. In June 2014 博美 ended its record business, and Gin Lee returned to being independent. The Chinese Wikipedia records a whole year without work, almost no money left for the rent, and that in 2015 Gin Lee had no choice but to return to the old trade, entering in turn the music talent shows "中國之星" and season four of "中国好声音", and on the latter joining the team directed by Jay Chou.
In 2016 Gin Lee joined Universal Records Hong Kong. On April 18 the new album "BeGin" was released. The two lead songs, "雙雙" and "月球下的人", became three-station number-one songs one after the other, and drew a high click count online. Afterwards album sales broke platinum. On November 25 the same year "beGin and more" came out.
Gin Lee also worked with William So, releasing a duet version of "Saying Goodbye to Every Day" and the accompanying video. Gin Lee also recorded Cantonese and Mandarin versions of "Breathe" with Jax Jones.
In 2017 there came, in turn, "天變地變情不變" (January 5), "空姐" (April 7), "和每天講再見" (June 20), "Live in the Moment" (September 5) and "和每天講再見 (duet version)" (September 20).
Gin Lee has held a live performance named "雙雙與李幸倪音樂會", and has also called a press conference for the concert "Gin Lee First of All Live". The first large concert was announced for June 2018 at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
In 2018 there came "很堅強" (January 19), "信" (March 28), "我們的夢" (May 8), "自我感覺還好" (June 8), the EP "Bold & Beautiful" (June 21), "侘寂" (September 21), the live album "First of All Live 2018" (October 19), "風靡" (November 30) and the EP "Gin Lee Music Suite" (December 14). In 2019 there were "孤獨門口" (May 17), "以愛情的罪名" (July 5) and "浮世繪" (July 19). In 2021 the EP "Gin Lee秘密内心世界 Vol.1" came out. On July 8, 2022 "Time & Faith" came out.
For two seasons in a row, 2021 to 2022, Gin Lee was a mentor on TVB's singing talent show "聲夢傳奇", and in turn taught the champions 炎明熹 and 任暟晴. Netizens likened Gin Lee to a "champion mentor".
HK01 records that word once went out of Universal Records that contracts were ending and people were leaving the nest, involving Priscilla Chan, Gin Lee and AGA. The company statement said Priscilla Chan and Gin Lee would finish their contracts with the company, leave Universal Records and open new work plans, wished both a smooth new stretch of work, and was grateful for the contribution the two had made to the company. The report also said that during the Universal Records contract the company would give its full effort to promoting the new album, had already shot a wholly new record sleeve for the new album, and was building a different face with a new production team, and that Gin Lee took part in the whole production.
In 2023 Gin Lee signed with Emperor Entertainment and released five singles in a row. Of them, the two waves of lead songs made with lyricist Wyman Wong, "Dum Dum" and "企好", became five-station number-one songs, and at the year-end awards each received a song prize.
In February 2025 "Leap of Faith", the first album after joining Emperor, came out. The Chinese Wikipedia records that it was number one on the Hong Kong recording-industry sales chart for nine weeks, and that RTHK rated it "best Chinese record (female singer)". In April "白夜行", composed by senior 謝霆鋒, was released. Besides becoming a five-station number-one song again, it received Metro's "hit song", Commercial Radio's "top ten of the chart", RTHK's "top ten Chinese gold songs" and Chill Club's "top ten songs of the year", and became that year's only female-singer "four-station joint gold song". At the end of the year Gin Lee successfully defended every female-singer grand prize. The same year, as a mentor on ViuTV's talent show "全民造星VI", Gin Lee again taught a champion, 王偉俊 (Teller), and a third time became a "champion mentor".
On September 7, 2026 "READY FOR GIN LEE LIVE IN HONG KONG 2026" came out.
