Huang Pin-yuan is a Taiwanese male singer, host, and actor. He was born in Taichung on March 17, 1968, and graduated from the Department of International Trade at Ling Tung Junior College of Commerce.
His music career began with singing residencies during his student years: his older brother took Huang Pin-yuan to sing at a folk-music restaurant in Taichung. At age twenty, Huang and his brother entered the first Youth Star Intercollegiate Music Competition and placed second. Huang later presented his own compositions to producer 沈光遠, who recognized his talent and signed him.
Huang Pin-yuan's recording career began in 1990. In April of that year, he released his debut album, "男配角心聲," through Rock Records; it included the song "你怎麼捨得我難過."
His songwriting and performances have also taken different approaches to arrangement. In its introduction to "海浪," the Apple Music editorial team noted that the work combines Mandarin balladry, short Taiwanese-language pieces, Japanese-textured arrangements, and the vocabulary of rock. Huang Pin-yuan wrote "睡了沒"; "不知誰娶到你" uses harmonica, piano, and guitar accompaniment and is a Southern Min love song.
Acting became another strand of Huang Pin-yuan's work beyond singing. In 1996, he played 吳天良 in CTS's "阿足"; in 1998, he played 伍復才 in "爸爸的本尊"; and in 2002, he also appeared in PTS's "人生劇展──六輪之戀."
His film roles also include 阿屘 in "無言的山丘," 董震威 in "超級班長," and 蔡某 in "7-ELEVEN之戀." Huang Pin-yuan won the Best Original Film Song award at the 39th Golden Horse Awards for "7-ELEVEN之戀."
In April 2002, Huang Pin-yuan co-hosted CTV's "綜藝大哥大" with 張菲 and 康康, and won Best Host for a Variety Program at the 39th Golden Bell Awards. Huang also co-hosted SET Metro's "音樂產房" with Kay Huang and previously hosted "全能運動王" with 徐乃麟 and 徐華鳳.
The television drama "雨夜花" left Huang Pin-yuan with both a role and an award nomination. He played 蔡信雄 in the series and was nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Television Series at the 47th Golden Bell Awards in 2012.
Huang Pin-yuan's Hong Kong concerts include "黃品源來愛你十年濃情香港演唱會實錄" on December 1, 2002, and "簡單情歌香港演唱會" on January 7, 2003. On January 5, 2019, Huang held the "星火燎源" concert at the National Taiwan University Sports Center, with Wakin Chau as a guest; on December 9, 2023, he held another stop of the "再見小薇" tour at Shanghai Jing'an Gymnasium.
