About the artist
Ivana Wong is a Hong Kong singer-songwriter, composer and actress, born on June 18, 1979, and joined the music scene in 2005. Born into a moderately well-off family, grew up in Taikoo Shing from childhood. Both parents are amateur vocalists and teach classical music; father 王帆 is a tenor and conductor, mother 馮志麗 a soprano. Once attended 北角衛理小學, and studied to Form 5 at 張祝珊英文中學.
As a child was a member of the Hong Kong Children's Choir, with experience of several singing and piano contests and accompaniment. Before entering performing, once returned to Hong Kong for a summer job, doing odd work in a bank computer department, and at that time received inspiration to begin composing and writing lyrics. Works of that time include "我真的受傷了" and "是一個誤會沒甚麼可悲"; the former is the only work for which lyrics came first and music afterwards.
In 2000 entered the 12th CASH Song Writers Quest and with "是一個誤會沒甚麼可悲" took the championship, the work composed, written and performed by Ivana Wong alone. Afterwards several record companies made contact, but signing was declined in favour of returning to Canada to finish an economics degree. In 2004 decided to return to Hong Kong for behind-the-scenes music work, was recommended by then Universal Music producer 伍仲衡, and became a behind-the-scenes writer at Universal Music Hong Kong. In 2005 formally joined the music scene and debuted, and in the same year received several female-newcomer and singer-songwriter awards. In November 2007 joined East Asia Music.
In September 2008 held two first solo concerts after entering the industry, "我來自火星演唱會", at STAR HALL; the first invited Jacky Cheung as special guest, and the two sang "我真的受傷了", which Ivana Wong had written for him; the second invited the amateur-singer parents on stage to sing "Amazing Grace". Wikipedia records that "Infinity Journey", issued in October of the same year, reached gold-record sales. When receiving Singer-Songwriter Gold at the 2009 Jade Solid Gold Awards, said "On Wings Of Time" was the album since entering the industry that had received the most praise from people in the trade and from listeners.
In October 2011 first held two solo concerts "水．百合" at the Hong Kong Coliseum, collaborating with three music directors and a forty-two-person string orchestra. Afterwards returned to the Coliseum twice, in 2014 and 2017, the latter with Hins Cheung. In 2012, with "留白", took song awards at Hong Kong's four major music awards and the Gold Song Gold Award at that year's Jade Solid Gold Awards; Wikipedia records the song as Ivana Wong's first to receive a gold-song award at all four stations' ceremonies, and also the only song that year to receive a song award at all four stations. In the same year received Singer-Songwriter Silver and Female Singer Bronze at the Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation, and in January 2012 at "2011年度十大勁歌金曲頒獎典禮" received Asia-Pacific Most Popular Hong Kong Female Singer.
From 2006 began appearing in stage plays. In 2010 "柯迪夫Octave" ran nineteen performances, and songs written for the play were nominated for Best Original Music at the 20th Hong Kong Drama Awards. With the 2011 translated Broadway musical "I Love You Because" was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 21st Hong Kong Drama Awards. Also, playing mathematical genius Catherine in the stage play "求證", received Best Actress (tragedy/drama) at the 31st Hong Kong Drama Awards. In 2020, with the stage play "First Date" starring with 吳鎮宇, was nominated for Best Actress (comedy/farce) at the 29th Hong Kong Drama Awards.
In June 2012 first took a television drama, "老表，你好嘢!", and with it was nominated for Best Actress and Most Popular Television Female Character at the TVB Anniversary Awards 2013. In April 2015, with "金雞SSS", received Best Supporting Actress and Best New Performer at the 34th Hong Kong Film Awards; Wikipedia records Ivana Wong as the fourth actor to take both awards at once, after 劉玉翠, 舒淇 and 林嘉欣, and in the same year was also nominated for Best Newcomer at the 9th Asian Film Awards. In 2023, playing 何嘉男 in the New Year film "飯戲攻心" and the film's theme "狠愛狠愛你", was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Film Song at the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards, receiving Best Supporting Actress, the second time receiving that award. According to Ming Pao, beat 林明禎, 楊詩敏, 區嘉敏 and 余香凝; when receiving the award said "多謝大家接受我係女演員".
Collaboration with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra began with the first four orchestral works, which had their world premieres at "港樂×王菀之：「THE MISSING SOMETHING」音樂會". On May 12–13, 2023 again collaborated with the Hong Kong Philharmonic on the orchestral concert "我不肯定咖啡配甚麼：冰島、那個鋼琴、還是你的畫像？".
