About the artist
Janice Vidal is a Hong Kong female singer, born on April 13, 1982, English name Janice M. Vidal. English Wikipedia records mixed Filipino, Chinese and Korean ancestry, and that twin sister Jill Vidal (衛詩) also sings. The father is a Cebuano from the Philippines, immigrated to Hong Kong in the 1980s, and was a resident performer at a Tsim Sha Tsui bar; Janice Vidal has said the earliest contact with music was in the mother's womb, and at home the father often played music. Chinese Wikipedia records that after the age of ten Janice Vidal was arranged to return to Hong Kong, and only at eleven learned there was a twin sister.
In 2000 once took part in the New Talent Singing Awards under the stage name 明樂蒂. Janice Vidal has said that at eighteen, while helping DJ Tommy record, was heard by Mark Lui, then sang backing vocals for Leon Lai, and after listening Leon Lai said on the spot he wanted to sign; that article and Oriental Daily News both record that Janice Vidal had signed with A Music at eighteen and was the first singer under Leon Lai. Wen Wei Po and SundayMore respectively record signing in 2003 and a formal debut in 2004, while Janice Vidal and The Beijing News call the April 13, 2005 release date of the first album the formal entry into the industry / formal debut. Mark Lui later said that the two already knew each other before Janice Vidal signed with Leon Lai, and that it was Mark Lui who brought Janice Vidal into the industry. Leon Lai found the Cantonese not good enough, and arranged for Janice Vidal to work at the company as a switchboard operator and to buy takeaway in order to train speaking skills; Janice Vidal has said that before the first album was released the company gave five years to learn Cantonese well. At the end of 2004 Leon Lai arranged English-language covers of "我這樣愛你" and "情深說話未曾講". Sina records that the record company built a mysterious image, the voice heard but the face not seen, and also records that Janice Vidal originally sang backing vocals for Leon Lai, was then discovered by Mark Lui, and was known as "黎明師妹".
On April 13, 2005, on the twenty-third birthday, released the first solo album "Day & Night". The disc had Mark Lui and Justin Lo, then still behind the scenes, as record producers; Janice Vidal told The Beijing News that Justin Lo was the producer of the first album. In a 2020 programme Mark Lui said it was Mark Lui's own decision to turn Leon Lai's famous works into English songs, tailoring this disc for Janice. The whole disc was performed in an R&B singing style, and also involved acoustic, light jazz and Bossanova; according to the Chinese Wikipedia article on "Day & Night", Janice Vidal's Westernized voice and singing technique made the disc HMV sales champion for two consecutive weeks. A second edition came out on May 26, 2005, adding "大哥". HK01 called the disc an album of covers or adaptations of Leon Lai classics, and said it sold well.
In November of the same year released the second album "My Love", which included "十個他不如一個你", "一場誤會", "心亂如麻" and "大哥". Janice Vidal said on a programme that "心亂如麻" took about half a year to record, the work that took the longest to record since entering the industry. In 2006 "離家出走" became the first four-station number-one song and the first two-week number-one song. At the 2006 Ultimate Song Chart awards, defeated Kay Tse, Ivana Wong and 薛凱琪, among other singers, to take Ultimate Song Chart Female Singer Bronze.

In 2010 the duet with Leon Lai, "男人信什麼", won that year's Jade Solid Gold Gold Song Gold Award.
In 2009 衛詩 was detained in Japan for hiding drugs, and had the contract terminated early by Leon Lai. In June 2015 Janice Vidal and 衛詩 formally signed with Warner Music; Oriental Daily News said Warner's official site announced the two sisters' signing, and that Janice Vidal set the condition of signing together with the younger sister. In 2017 the two sisters, under the name Dear John, released "Over Over" and "K.O.L".
Janice Vidal's Cantonese album "Love And Other Things" after joining Warner contained "穿花蝴蝶" and a trilogy; at the end of October 2017 released the first Mandarin album "衛蘭". 2021's "It's OK To Be Sad" was a four-station number-one song (including ViuTV); 2022's "Little Miss Janice" was a four-station number-one song, and is recorded as the first five-station number-one song. In the same year released the album "Daughter", whose lead concept is female autonomy. "一格格" was later issued as a single. In July 2023 the Warner contract expired, and independence was announced.
