About the artist
Kary Ng is a Hong Kong female singer, original name 吳家穎, born on June 9, 1986 in British Hong Kong, and once attended Victoria Kindergarten and Canadian International School. Also has the nickname "Kary大鼻".
In 2002, at sixteen, took part in Ultimate 903 Clean & Clear 手牽手大行動, performed "旅行" and was discovered by EMI, and in June of the same year debuted as a member of Cookies, releasing the first EP "Happy Birthday". HK01 records that Cookies was formed in 2002, a nine-person girl group, and that one song, "心急人上", was known in every street; Sing Tao Headline records the group as formed in 2001. Kary Ng signed at fifteen to Gold Label under EMI, and was only sixteen when Cookies received Ultimate Song Chart Best New Group Bronze.
In 2003 Cookies was reduced from nine to four, those remaining being 鄧麗欣, 傅穎, 楊愛瑾 and Kary Ng. In 2004 joined the band Ping Pung as lead vocalist, while remaining in Cookies; that group that year put out only one album, "Love & Hate", then disbanded. In March 2005 Cookies took the stance of "going solo without disbanding" for individual development; 傅穎 recalled that at that year's signing event it was announced that for two years they would temporarily develop independently, but stressed it was not a disbanding. In the same year, in line with solo development, changed the original name to the stage name Kary Ng.
In 2006 released "With A Boy Like You"; manager PACO chose this same-titled English song, the original being With A Girl Like You; the disc was performed in Cantonese, Mandarin and English, came with a 熱火樂團 concert DVD, and was the first personal mini concert. The disc includes "愛你變成恨你", "台北四天三夜" and others; the English Wikipedia records "愛你變成恨你" as the first Ultimate Song Chart top-ten, then only twenty, the youngest female-singer winner.
In June 2007 released "In Control", the opening track being "山歌", a duet with Justin Lo. The disc's third song, "逼得太緊", is the theme of the film "十分愛", took the four stations' annual top-ten song awards, and in 2008 received Best Original Film Song at the 27th Hong Kong Film Awards. When the disc received the Four Stations Joint Album Award Kary Ng was only twenty-one; English Wikipedia records this as the youngest female winner. In January 2008 opened three consecutive shows of Lady K Live 08 at Star Hall, Kowloon Bay.
On August 6, 2010 released the EP "合+歡", a collaboration with Hardpack. When said to have been promoted to Gold Typhoon's leading lady, Kary Ng modestly said "Just call me 霏妹"; also said the path differed from 鄧麗欣's, and that acting was for herself only a side project. At the time told Oriental Daily News of currently heading toward Rock, hoping the position would be clearer after the concert. After Cookies and Ping Pung, then putting out records in a solo stance, Kary Ng was described by the outlet as a "versatile" female singer.
On January 30, 2011 held the first solo concert "KARY ON LIVE 2011" at the Hong Kong Coliseum, inviting former senior Miriam Yeung to appear; the latter once sang the wrong lyrics from shaking hands with the audience. After Kary Ng sang "絕配" in tears, Brian presented flowers from below the stage and embraced her in public. The concert's DVD and Blu-ray were released on April 13 of the same year. Oriental Daily News recorded that the show was well received, the company sought an April Part 2 as a chip for contract renewal, and Gold Typhoon CEO 陳輝虹 acknowledged already applying for a Coliseum Part 2, but at that time the Coliseum had not approved. In the same year the Gold Typhoon contract expired; reportedly, Emperor, Universal and Warner were interested in poaching, and Kary Ng said this was the first time in life of making so large a decision, needing careful thought, not wanting to be slipshod, and consulted old friend 鄧麗欣 and senior William So on contract matters. Afterwards, having resolved to leave, had all work suspended by Gold Typhoon. The EP before the Coliseum, "Carry On", was the last record before the Gold Typhoon contract expired.
On September 5, 2011 announced joining Cinepoly under Universal, ending nine years of collaboration with Gold Typhoon; the press conference premiered the music-film MV of the new song "我本人", with male lead 林德正, son of George Lam; the song at once became a three-station number one. The English Wikipedia records having once become the only Asian female singer to perform at Universal's annual summit Korea stop. After the move, told Oriental Daily News of not once having met Jacky Cheung since joining Universal.
In 2012 first received Ultimate Song Chart Female Singer Bronze. On January 8 and 9, 2013 held The Present Concert 2013 at the Hong Kong Coliseum; former Cookies members 鄧麗欣, 楊愛瑾 and 區文詩 appeared as mystery guests, and Kary Ng explained on 傅穎's behalf: the other was very busy, but had sent a flower basket. On November 20 of the same year released "State of Mind", the first album on which every song involved Kary Ng in composing, and on the disc "生我的命" received an Ultimate Song Chart top ten. On May 26, 2014 released "Across", and on March 23, 2015 released "艷羨".
Kary Ng cites the nickname Lady K in album titles, such as Lady K Live and Lady K: Transformation, and genres include pop rock, C-rock, Cantopop, Mandopop and Synthpop; instruments are piano / guitar / drums, and the musical line is Cantonese pop.
On January 26, 2015 announced on social media a registered marriage with 洪立熙 (Brian Hung) in the United States; the wedding message wrote "Marriage is an important lesson in life" and quoted 1 Corinthians 13:4. On February 4 announced a contract renewal with Universal, and on February 15 held the Eternal Love concert. After the 2015 marriage output began to drop; HK01 records that in recent years work almost fully stopped to focus on family life, with children; the last works before fading out were "奉愛之名" and "Come with me", produced by Alex Fung.
In 2002 first appeared in the film "九個女仔一隻鬼" as 虎兒, and in 2006 in "Love @ First Note" as Kristy, the first female lead.
In December 2020, when fans asked for an Ultimate Song Chart photo to be posted, chose a group photo with at17 and wrote "I miss you" in remembrance of 盧凱彤. In May 2022 gathered with 鄧麗欣 and 區文詩 for an early birthday, 鄧麗欣 writing that the twentieth anniversary of knowing each other should be celebrated. On March 15, 2025, at the second show of 鄧麗欣's Coliseum concert, Kary Ng appeared with Cookies members including 楊愛瑾; during the Encore six Cookies members went on stage together and sang "心急人上", 鄧麗欣 saying going on stage together fulfilled everyone's wish. As early as 2010 Kary Ng had told Oriental Daily News of asking the other Cookies members to support the Coliseum shows, and that even if not all were present it would not matter.
