About the artist
Kit Chan is a Singaporean female singer and stage actress, born on September 15, 1972. While studying at LASALLE College of the Arts, Chan auditioned in London for the musical "Miss Saigon"; the production team wanted her to join after graduation, but she had an opportunity to become a singer before graduating and therefore gave up plans to develop her career in the United Kingdom. In 1989, Chan entered an interschool songwriting competition organized by LASALLE College of the Arts, after which she began singing advertising jingles; in 1992, she was recognized and signed by Ocean Butterflies Music owner 许环良. The English Wikipedia gives another account: at age 17, Chan was discovered by Ocean Butterflies music producer Billy Koh while singing in a songwriting competition, after which she became a studio singer and performed advertising jingles and cover songs.
In 1993, Chan released her debut Mandarin album, "不要傷了和氣," in Singapore. She signed with Taiwan's "立得唱片" in 1994 and released her first Mandarin album in Taiwan, "心痛," that November; six of its songs were selected from "不要傷了和氣." The first promoted track, "心痛," topped the winter ranking of "民生報"'s "金曲龍虎榜," while the third, "愛讓我犯錯," was the theme song for the film "我要活下去." In 1995, Chan signed with Hong Kong's Cinepoly Records and made plans to develop her career in mainland China; that year she released the album "逼的太緊." In 1996, Chan received the Best Vocal Technique distinction within the Most Promising Newcomer category at RTHK's 18th Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards, as well as the "九五國語金曲獎(銀獎)" at the Metro Radio Hits Music Awards; that year she released the albums "伤心" and "別讓我恨你."

During her break from the music scene, she returned to LASALLE College of the Arts as an adult student, wrote a thesis on performance psychology, and graduated with first-class honors.
