About the artist

Liu Huan was a Mainland Chinese male singer and composer and an associate professor at the University of International Business and Economics. He was born in Tianjin on August 26, 1963, into a family of teachers. While attending Tianjin Stadium Primary School, he was a core member of the school's performing arts troupe, performed xiangsheng with classmate 戴志诚, excelled at excerpts from the Peking opera "智取威虎山," and could also perform Shandong kuaishu. After graduating from Tianjin Yaohua High School in 1981, he studied French at the University of International Relations in Beijing from that year until 1985.

While at university, Liu Huan won a French songwriting competition and was rewarded by the French government with a trip to Paris. In 1985, he won both the English- and French-language categories in Beijing's first university foreign-language song competition, launching his music career; an article published by ifeng.com states that that year he first won a French-language song competition held by the French Embassy at Beijing International Studies University and later won the first English-language song competition for universities in the capital, held at Peking University at the end of the year. The same article also states that when CCTV was preparing the variety gala "电影世界" in 1986 and could not find a singer who could perform in French, Liu Huan returned to Beijing after receiving an invitation and sang the French insert song "愿我们重相会" from the film "Teheran 43," for which he also adapted the Chinese lyrics.
