About the artist

Ma Nien-hsien is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter, actor, and host born on February 8, 1973. He has also worked as a DJ for the Hit FM network.

A 1994 notice recruiting band members brought vocalist Ma Nien-hsien together with guitarist 沈其翰, bassist 余光耀, and drummer 洪峙立. The four formed 糯米團 and performed at campus events. The band's first Taiwanese-language song, "蒼蠅女郎," won the songwriting division of PolyGram Records' Top Young music newcomer award, after which producer Steve Chow signed the members.

糯米團 released its self-titled debut album in 1997, followed by "青春鳥王" in 2000. Discussing the band's subsequent hiatus of more than ten years, Ma Nien-hsien said the greater problem was the arrival of SARS, after which there was almost no work for several years; 沈其翰 said that as the members approached 30, they naturally moved into their respective fields.

Ma Nien-hsien released his debut solo album, "Mama Jeans and Daddy Shoes," in 2021. Ma Nien-hsien said it might be reasonable to classify his songs as City Pop because most of the lyrics take an urban perspective and the chords have many similarities to those used in Japanese City Pop at the time.
