About the artist
Michelle Pan, whose birth name is 潘月雲, was born in Yancheng District, Kaohsiung, on November 19, 1957, and is a Taiwanese female singer. While singing at a Kaohsiung restaurant, she was recommended by Tai Chao-mei to the Duan brothers of Rock Records, and subsequently moved to Taipei to begin her singing career.
Michelle Pan recalled in an interview that Tai Chao-mei heard her sing while accompanying herself at a school charity gala and recommended her after learning that the newly established Rock Records was seeking newcomers. Rock Records then sent a ticket inviting her to audition; Pan sang three songs at a Taipei recording studio and thereby entered the record industry.
Michelle Pan's official debut was linked to Rock Records' inaugural work. On October 31, 1980, she entered the entertainment industry and joined Rock Records. Her debut, "三人展," was recorded by Pan, Wu Chu-chu, and Lily Lee and was also Rock Records' inaugural work. She subsequently sang "天天天藍."
Songs for film and television formed part of Michelle Pan's recording career. In 1986, she sang the title theme for the television drama "幾度夕陽紅"; in 1987, the film soundtrack "桂花巷" included its title song sung by Pan.
In ensemble and collaborative recordings, Michelle Pan took part in the chorus of "明天會更好" in 1985. In 1988, she sang her first English single, "Make no mistake ,He's mine," with 齊豫, and in 2018 the two sang "不曾告別(三毛姐姐如晤)" together.
Michelle Pan released the Taiwanese-language album "情字這條路" on July 13, 1988, and the single "淡水情歌" in 2006. On February 6, 2026, she released "我和我自己," handling its production, lyrics, composition, and vocal production.
Music education became another part of Michelle Pan's work. She studied in the in-service master's program in applied popular music industry-academia studies at National Taiwan Normal University and served as an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Music at Chinese Culture University while preparing concerts. Pan said in an interview that she had taught singing in the university's performing-arts management course for more than ten years and also led voice-training workshops in its evening division.
