Photon Maiden is a Japanese voice-actor unit belonging to D4DJ, a DJ-themed multimedia project announced by Bushiroad in December 2018. At "D4DJ 1st LIVE," held at Makuhari Messe on July 20 and 21, 2019, the unit was unveiled alongside the project's four other principal units, 20 characters, and their voice actors. Its four characters and voice actors are 出雲咲姫 (紡木吏佐), 新島衣舞紀 (前島亜美, later replaced by 七木奏音), 花巻乙和 (岩田陽葵), and 福島ノア (佐藤日向), and its music producer is 水島精二. It was announced on November 30, 2022, that 前島亜美 would step down from the role of 新島衣舞紀, and on December 12, it was announced that 七木奏音 would succeed her.

In the project's setting, Photon Maiden is a science-fiction-themed high-school DJ unit abbreviated as フォトン. Its musical style combines trance, techno, and dance music, and, in keeping with its musical concept, its lyrics also make extensive use of English. The project assigns a music producer to each unit, and 水島精二, who directed the television anime version, actively sought and secured the role for this unit; 水島精二 had previously also worked as a DJ. The musical direction and the unit's image were decided through discussions between 水島精二 and Bushiroad, while 水島精二's views were respected in the selection of original songs and covers. In the television anime "D4DJ First Mix," the unit's "A lot of life" was used as an insert song in episodes 4 and 9 and as a live-performance song in episode 13; its lyrics were written by 佐高陵平, and it was composed and arranged by fu_mou.
