Sammi Cheng is a Hong Kong female singer and actor, born in Hong Kong on August 19, 1972. Sammi Cheng has said that at about ten to eleven already decided to enter the New Talent Singing Awards on turning sixteen. Also said a father had chosen songs for Sammi Cheng and given full support from behind.
Sammi Cheng is an alumna of 灣仔鄧肇堅維多利亞官立中學. In 1988 entered the 7th New Talent Singing Awards and won third place; after winning, immediately agreed to an eight-year contract with Capital Artists. Formally debuted in 1990.
In 1992 stepped into film; the first work was "飛虎精英之人間有情", and with that film was nominated for Best New Performer at the 12th Hong Kong Film Awards.
In September 1996 Warner Music released the record "值得". In August 1997 the Cantonese album "我們的主題曲 (OUR THEME SONG)" was released, of which "我們的主題曲" was the theme song of the film "愛你愛到殺死你". In June 1999 "我應該得到 (I Deserved)" was released, and in September of the same year the Cantonese album "很愛 很愛". In August 2000 the Cantonese album "Ladies First" came out, and in February 2004 the Cantonese album "啦啦啦", both also issued by Warner. Capital Artists also issued the vinyl "Sammi 初", including remastered works such as "不來的季節" and "Chotto 等等".
The introduction to "我應該得到" recorded collaborators' remarks: 馬玉芬 said Sammi Cheng is a singer who never enters the studio without being prepared; 李偲菘 said that if it could be better, even polishing a hundred more times would be willing; 梁伯君 said singing method would not be prescribed, because Sammi Cheng has a unique way.
Sammi Cheng also appeared in "孤男寡女" in 2000 and "瘦身男女" in 2001. In earlier years Sammi Cheng kept making urban romantic comedies of the kind of "龍鳳鬥", "夏日麼麼茶" and "瘦身男女". 杜琪峯 once mentioned that Andy Lau, 古天樂, 劉青雲 and Sammi Cheng worked with 杜琪峯 because the roles fitted and they understood the shooting method.
In 2005 appeared in "長恨歌", directed by 關錦鵬; according to HK01, during the shoot, from overwork, developed depression, with weight jumping to 140 pounds, and Sammi Cheng compared herself to an oil lamp with no oil. After realizing the problem, paused all work; Sammi Cheng said that while going through depression it was possible not to look in a mirror for a month; after finishing "長恨歌" chose to withdraw, and for two years almost never went out. Sammi Cheng said emotional illness had lasted three years, and it was necessary first to admit being ill and accept treatment.
During recuperation began to establish faith, and in 2007 returned to hold a concert. While coming out of the low period, healed through painting, writing poems, faith and backpack travel, and became a Christian; Sammi Cheng said coming out of the haze relied on religious faith, and felt the love of Jesus Christ.
From May 18, 2007 held eight "景福 Show Mi 鄭秀文" concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum; the first show was a full house, performing "放不低", "回來我身邊", "默契" and others. Jan Lamb was a guest and duetted "其實你心裡有沒有我" with Sammi Cheng; at the May 25 final show Andy Hui appeared, and Sammi Cheng read "給自己的信" on stage.
In 2009 released the gospel album "信Faith", with the lead song "信者得愛". In 2010 sent to radio "不要驚動愛情", originally sung by 高皓正.
Once jointly created a theme song for an event with 盧凱彤; reports said it was Sammi Cheng's first composition.
On December 24, 2013 Media Asia released "Love Is Love" CD+DVD. In September 2016 held "Sammi Touch Mi 2世界巡迴演唱會" at the Hong Kong Coliseum, eight shows in all; the same month Warner Records released the Cantonese EP "Fabulous". In February 2017 Media Asia Music released the Mandarin album "裸".
In 2017 received the Asian Film Awards "Excellence in Asian Cinema Award". In 2018 again collaborated with 高皓正 to release "千年如一日". On July 12, 2019 the Cantonese album "我們都是這樣長大的" was released, on August 18, 2021 "Listen To Mi", and on July 14, 2023 the album "DREAM".
To support a local newcomer, took 賈勝楓's feature "流水落花" for no fee, playing 陳天美, and on April 16, 2023 won Best Actress at the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards.
On July 12, 2024, "You & Mi世界巡迴演唱會香港站2023" held its opening show at the Hong Kong Coliseum, with Andy Hui as guest for a duet.
