About the artist

Sandy Lam, a Hong Kong female singer, songwriter and music producer, was born on April 26, 1966. In 1982, in Form Four, Sandy Lam went with a classmate to Commercial Radio to try out as a DJ; Sandy Lam was taken and the classmate was not, and from then on worked part-time as a DJ on Commercial Radio 2 and entered show business.

In 1983, at an outdoor radio show, Sandy Lam sang the English song "Crying in the Rain" and was signed by CBS Sony executives and record producer 李添 (the composer 李雅桑). Between 1984 and 1985 Sandy Lam made films, acted in television dramas, and hosted the television program "青春道上". In April 1985, at 19, Sandy Lam released the first self-titled Cantonese album "林憶蓮", in a Japanese-style girl-pop vein.

The second album, 1986's "放縱", changed the style; according to a personality feature on Our China Story, the album sold platinum figures. The same year Sandy Lam began hosting the TVB music program "新地任你點", and in the "蓮子廣場" segment reported news from the Japanese entertainment world. The third album, 1987's "憶蓮", came with long curls, a mature-woman line, and a turn toward European and American styles; the same feature says sales passed double platinum. In June 1988 the fifth album "Ready" came out, with shorter hair and a more retro look, bringing in jazz and rhythm-and-blues styles then still uncommon in Cantonese pop.
