About the artist
Show Lo is a Taiwanese male singer, actor, host, dancer and businessman, nickname 小豬, born July 30, 1979 in Keelung, Taiwan.
At five Show Lo became the mainstay of a variety troupe, and performed with the parents in Taipei and Keelung. At six, with the father, Show Lo entered the parent-and-child singing contest on CTV's "六燈獎" and took second place. By imitating the then-popular 林志穎, Show Lo was admitted to 華岡藝校, but the mother suggested going back to Keelung for school. Show Lo graduated from Chenggong Elementary School in Ren'ai District, Keelung, and from Keelung Municipal Chenggong Junior High. The nickname "小豬" came from the school years.
In 1996, after winning a song-and-dance contest, Show Lo joined the Taiwanese male group "the Four Heavenly Kings" and debuted. In 1998, because 陳顯政 received a military call-up and 陳霆叡 went to the United States to study, the two announced they were leaving. Show Lo and 歐漢聲 formed the duo "Romeo" and went on. To step into hosting, the two took the host 胡瓜 as teacher.
Romeo later broke up because 歐漢聲 went into military service. At the same time Show Lo faced a contract dispute. After manager 小霜 helped and fought the case without pay, 小霜 later became the long-term manager. In 2001, with a lift from the Taiwan film-and-television magnate 楊登魁, Show Lo hosted "娛樂百分百" as a substitute, and the career continued. After the Four Heavenly Kings broke up, Show Lo kept developing in variety hosting, drama and singing. The Chinese Wikipedia records that the three television programmes Show Lo hosted, "TV三賤客", "少年兵團 旗開得勝" and "台灣 Who怕 Who", were the ratings champions of the time.
In 2003 the first solo album "Show Time" came out. Show Lo went to Japan to study with Sam, a member of the group TRF and also the former husband of the singer Namie Amuro, and afterwards released three albums in turn on Avex. On October 22, 2004 "達人Show" came out. On November 17, 2006 "SPESHOW" came out.
In 2006 Show Lo founded the fashion brand STAGE. The brand once had shops in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
On May 21, 2007 Show Lo signed with EMI and became a singer of the subsidiary Capitol Records, and planned to extend the map of the career under the agency of another Hong Kong subsidiary, Gold Label Entertainment. On January 15, 2010 the seventh solo album "羅生門" came out.
On February 18, 2011 the eighth solo album "獨一無二" was released, and for the first time a lyrical song, "拼什麼", was the first-wave lead. The same year "All For You 超精選" (February 1) and "Only for You" (July 20) also came out.
On February 15, 2012 a first Japanese single, "Dante", came out. The ninth solo album "有我在" came out on April 6. On March 19 the Chinese Wikipedia records that Show Lo became the first Chinese singer to open a personal video channel on Google+ and YouTube at the same time, and that Google built a dedicated studio at its Taiwan headquarters. With "有我在", Show Lo was Taiwan's overall champion of the year's record sales for three years in a row. "舞極限" was eighth in the year's record sales.
While promotion in Japan was stopped, Show Lo served as visual, music and dance director of the 2013 "舞極限 Over The Limit世界巡迴演唱會", and from January 4 toured out from the Taipei Arena. For the year 2013 the Chinese Wikipedia records 17 advertisements, 30 concerts and more than 10 commercial shows, income of NT$600 million, and first place in the income ranking of Taiwanese artists. On October 16 the same year "狮子吼之舞魂再现 冠军ENCORE版 (2CD)" came out.
As a songwriter, on the first musical work after joining Sony Music, "獅子吼", Show Lo included four personal compositions for which Show Lo wrote both words and music, including the title song "獅子吼". "惜命命" is the first Taiwanese-language work Show Lo wrote. The mini-album of the artist 林大晉 also includes the lead "MY GIRL", composed by Show Lo, and for that song Show Lo for the first time served as song producer. When 林大晉 held a solo concert, Show Lo was also invited to be stage director.
Watsons invited Show Lo to be spokesperson, and for three years in a row after that Show Lo spoke for the brand.
Show Lo was once an artist of the Japanese record company Pony Canyon. The Japanese edition of "獨一無二" was released by Pony Canyon, and it includes "ONLY YOU", the Japanese version of the album's second lead "獨一無二ONLY YOU". Show Lo's records were almost always reissued. "獨一無二" was reissued as many as six times. The original management company had meant to cancel that system, and once cancelled the earlier autograph-session tradition of "three pats and five hugs". In the end Show Lo argued for "winning benefits for the fans", and returned to the "three pats and five hugs" tradition. The management company "天地合娛樂製作有限公司" decided in 2015 to cancel that activity, and announced on Facebook that the coming publicity and autograph sessions would no longer follow the old form.
In 2014, with manager 小霜, Show Lo founded a new management company, "創造力娛樂有限公司". The first artist to join was 簡愷樂. From May 2015 Show Lo took part in recording "極限挑戰", a game reality show of mainland China's Dragon TV, and co-hosted it with 孙红雷, 黄磊, 黄渤, 王迅 and 张艺兴. On January 14, 2016, at a film-publicity event in mainland China, Show Lo publicly said, "There is no need to divide it so finely. We are all Chinese." The Chinese Wikipedia records that these words set off opinion in Taiwan.
On April 23, 2020, 周扬青, a mainland Chinese internet figure who had been with Show Lo for nine years, posted on Weibo to announce the breakup, and in the post pointed out the reasons. Mirror Media and EBC News reported that long post the same day, and recorded that it contained several accusations against Show Lo. At noon that day Show Lo posted a reply on Weibo: "First, I am very sorry that my private matter has taken up public resources. Thank you all for your concern. Perhaps many people are waiting to see how I will respond. But I only want to say that the happy things two people go through together, and the wind and rain as well, and that over nine years we parted and came together many times. Where I did wrong, I will also examine myself. Many things cannot be made clear in a few words, and I will not explain further. I am grateful for this stretch of life in which we knew each other and loved each other, and I do not regret it."
The English Wikipedia records that Show Lo was reported to have lost about 20 million U.S. dollars in appearance fees and endorsements, and that many companies began removing Show Lo from programmes and advertisements, including Produce Camp 2020 and Go Fighting! It also records a return on November 20, 2021 with the new song "Trap Game".
