About the artist
Stanley Yau was born on August 20, 1990. A Hong Kong entertainer, he graduated from City University of Hong Kong with a degree in computer science.
Dance was Stanley Yau's main occupation before entering the entertainment industry. At around age 18 or 19, he began practicing after seeing a dance video by the South Korean entertainer Rain on YouTube, and said, "After I entered university, I joined a dance troupe." Before entering the industry, Stanley Yau worked as a dance teacher and dancer and was also a backup dancer for Aaron Kwok, Pakho Chau, and Sandy Lam.
Competing in a talent show took Stanley Yau from backup dancing to center stage. In 2018, he competed in "Good Night Show 全民造星," reached the final ten, and traveled to Los Angeles with nine other contestants to receive dance training from Travis Payne and Leeco. After the show ended, Stanley Yau was invited to join MIRROR, and on December 21 that year he took part in "2018 THE FIRST MIRROR LIVE CONCERT" at Star Hall in the Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre.
Stanley Yau's transition from dancer to on-camera entertainer was not immediate. While competing in "Good Night Show 全民造星," he had to change his habit of focusing only on presenting dance and learn how to "be a star." At one press conference, Stanley Yau hid behind the set because he was unaccustomed to handing out his personal cards to the media, explaining, "Because I felt uncomfortable."
Acting later became an area Stanley Yau focused on developing. His television series include "第三佈局 塵沙惑" and "IT狗," and he played a male lead for the first time in "野人老師." Discussing his acting work, Stanley Yau said, "I am working hard to become an outstanding actor," and said that he values teamwork and the creative results of filming.
Short films are another part of Stanley Yau's acting work. In 2024, he appeared with 凌文龍 and 袁澧林 in the crime anthology short film "Deja Vu," directed by 簡君晉.
Stanley Yau's solo music career gradually grew out of songs for television series. In 2022, he released his first solo single, "重新介紹," the theme song for "野人老師." His first single sent to radio, "來不及," was released in May 2023; in an interview with Tatler Asia, Stanley Yau said that the work arose from his regret at being unable to perform for his mother at a concert.
Stanley Yau's second single sent to radio used a sing-and-dance format. The song, "Drunk In Love," was released in June 2024.
Stanley Yau does not want to restrict his dance style to a single category. He said that he lets the music guide him naturally as he dances and that slightly dark, sorrowful music is especially likely to inspire stage imagery.
