About the artist

Stefanie Sun, a Singaporean female singer and songwriter, was born in Singapore on July 23, 1978, with family roots in Chaozhou, Guangdong. At university Stefanie Sun was lead singer of a campus band, and at 18 wrote a first song, "Someone", whose Mandarin version, "知道的请告诉我", was later sung by Sammi Cheng and included on Sammi Cheng's 2000 album "去愛吧". Stefanie Sun's mother enrolled Stefanie Sun at 李伟菘's music school to study singing.

In 1998 周建辉 (then about to become chairman of Warner Music Taiwan) visited 李伟菘's music school; 李伟菘 had several students sing, and after hearing them Warner said it would sign Stefanie Sun. In 2000 Stefanie Sun graduated from the marketing department of Nanyang Technological University; the same year Stefanie Sun debuted in Taiwan with the self-titled album "孫燕姿", released in June, and also released the album "我要的幸福" that year.

At the 12th Golden Melody Awards on May 5, 2001, Stefanie Sun won Best New Artist for the first self-titled album. At that ceremony Stefanie Sun received six nominations across the first two albums, and "天黑黑" and "我要的幸福" were respectively the winning works for Best Composer and Best Arranger that year.
