About the artist
Walkie Talkie is a Taiwanese female vocal duo formed by 黃錦雯 and 于秀琴. Early on, the two held a singing residency at the Wood Guitar folk-song restaurant in Ximending and also competed on "五燈獎" before being discovered by Rock Records.
Before officially releasing music, the pair had already sung in Western-style restaurants for years. Producer 楊明煌 watched them perform many times, admired their harmonies, and signed them in preparation for Rock Records to release their work. After a three-year wait, Walkie Talkie entered the music industry in 1998 with the EP "星期天不要見面," whose title song was composed by Wakin Chau.
The duo's songs also include compositions by the two members themselves. 秀琴 wrote the lyrics and 錦雯 composed the music for "幸福"; the earlier "不確定" used the same division of work. "我的 Super Life" was selected as a lead single, with lyrics centered on Walkie Talkie's feelings upon first entering the music industry.
Their collaborations with other musicians extended to songwriting, duets, and field recording. Ah Niu wrote and sang "牽牛花" with Walkie Talkie, with the three presenting their collaboration under the name "牛錦繡三重唱." Lee Cheng-Fan wrote "HELLO 五彩氣球" for the duo; while producing "河堤," Lee and the two members went to a riverbank in Hualien for inspiration and recorded ambient sounds into the song.
Hosting was one of the duo's pursuits beyond singing. In 2000, Walkie Talkie hosted a program for the first time, "勇闖美麗島," introducing the local customs and scenery of places across Taiwan.
