About the artist

Wang Hailing is a Taiwanese campus folk singer born in Taipei on January 21, 1963. She graduated from the social-work division of National Taiwan University's Department of Sociology. Still a student at Taipei First Girls High School when she first became active, she entered the Golden Rhyme Awards in the winter of 1979 and won with "My Heart Belongs to Me"; that same year she recorded "忘了我是誰," which was included on "金韻獎(六)," released in the summer of 1980.

Wang Hailing later shared her own recollections about how she understood "忘了我是誰." She said the lyrics were straightforward and easy to understand, but that she was also puzzled at the time by the emotion expressed in them.

The Golden Rhyme Awards series preserved several of Wang Hailing's early recordings. Both "金韻獎7" from 1980 and "金韻獎10" from 1982 included performances by her, and Wang released "海邊幻影" at the end of 1982.

Her solo works from this period include "在雨中," "歸鄉," and "花月正春風." Odeon Records released "在雨中" in early 1984 and "歸鄉" that summer; "花月正春風" followed in February 1986.
