About

Crowd Lu (Crowd Lu), born on July 15, 1985, in Tainan, Taiwan, China, is an independent singer-songwriter with a highly distinctive style and significant influence in the Mandarin pop music scene. While attending university, he was involved in a serious car accident and began writing songs on the guitar during his recovery. Later, while participating in a university songwriting competition, he was discovered by renowned music producer Zhong Chenghu and signed with the independent music label record label “Team Ear Music,” officially launching his professional music career.

In 2008, Crowd Lu released his debut studio album, *100 Ways of Life*. In the Mandarin-language music market, which was dominated by sentimental pop love songs, Crowd Lu quickly sparked a refreshing wave of indie folk music with his signature buzz cut and shorts, as well as lyrics full of down-to-earth charm and positive humor. Although his music is rooted in folk, he incorporates elements of blues, jazz, and soft rock into his arrangements and guitar playing. His exceptionally wide vocal range and signature improvisational “dolphin-like” vocal technique give his live performances tremendous auditory impact and emotional resonance. With his debut album, he swept the Best New Artist and Best Composer awards at the 20th Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan.

Crowd Lu’s approach to record production aligns closely with the meticulous and conceptual standards of independent music. In subsequent albums such as *Seven Days*, *Slow Soul*, and *What a Folk!!!!!!*, he continues to explore the micro-emotions and life philosophies of the individual in the modern metropolis. Under the production guidance of his long-time collaborator Zhong Chenghu, Crowd Lu’s physical albums maintain exceptionally high technical standards in acoustic instrument recording and soundstage imaging; his vinyl releases are often cited as representative works of high-quality recording in Taiwan.

In addition to his achievements in music, Crowd Lu has also made significant breakthroughs in cross-media theatrical performances. In 2017, he starred in the phenomenon-level TV series *A Boy at Sixty*, produced by Plant Theater, and wrote and performed the theme song “Little Fish.” The song skillfully blends Minnan and Mandarin, achieving massive success on streaming platforms and in the physical single market. It earned him the Song of the Year and Best Composer awards at the Golden Melody Awards, and subsequently helped him win the Best Mandarin Male Singer award, achieving dual recognition from both the mainstream commercial scene and the independent music community.

Industry critics and academics widely agree that Crowd Lu and the Tianyi Chuangyue team behind him perfectly exemplify how contemporary independent musicians can start out in small live houses and, through solid songwriting and high-caliber live performances (such as the famous early-morning concert at the Taipei Arena), progress step by step toward large Asian arenas and the highest honors in mainstream music, serving as a key symbol of Taiwanese pop culture in the 21st century.
