About

Sodagreen (Sodagreen) is one of Taiwan’s most iconic pop-rock and indie bands, consisting of lead vocalist Wu Qing-feng, bassist Xie Xinyi, drummer Shi Junwei, acoustic guitarist He Jingyang, electric guitarist Liu Jiakai, and keyboardist/violist Gong Yuqi. The band was formed on a college campus in 2001 and officially debuted with a single in 2004 after being discovered by veteran producer Lin Weizhe.

In terms of musical style and vocal performance, Sodagreen possesses a highly distinctive acoustic identity. Lead vocalist Wu Qing-feng possesses a piercing, high-pitched voice of ambiguous gender, and his songwriting is deeply inspired by classical literature, modern poetry, and Western philosophy. In terms of arrangement, thanks to keyboardist A Gong’s deep background in classical symphonic music, the band’s works extensively blend grand classical string arrangements with the rhythms of modern rock bands, breaking down the industry boundaries between traditional Mandarin pop and indie rock. Their early full-length albums, such as *Microcosm* and *Unparalleled Beauty*, quickly achieved overwhelming commercial success across mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong thanks to their beautiful melodies and deeply resonant campus-inspired humanistic spirit.

In 2009, Sodagreen launched the “Vivaldi Project,” an initiative marked by both industrial ambition and artistic vision. Through a series of transnational recording sessions in Taitung, London, Beijing, and Berlin, the project fused local folk music, British rock, Chinese-style pop, and electronic symphonic elements to record four full-length studio albums representing the four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. This series of works not only meets world-class standards in terms of the complexity of its arrangements and high-fidelity recording engineering but has also garnered an unprecedented response in both digital streaming and physical record markets, helping the band sweep multiple top honors at the Golden Melody Awards, including Best Band and Best Mandarin Album.

In recent years, the band has been embroiled in an extremely protracted and industry-shaking legal battle with its former manager over master recording copyrights and trademarks. During this period, the band continued to perform under the name “Yuding Si” and established an independent company to self-fund a “reissue album” project featuring the original specifications or even higher resolution. Experts across the music industry and legal circles have noted that Sodagreen’s high-quality digital and physical release catalog, spanning more than a decade, is not only a textbook-level audio archive demonstrating how an independent band from Taiwan can break through the mainstream commercial system, but their history of struggle to secure absolute control over music master rights has also profoundly driven the awakening of copyright awareness within the Chinese-language music industry in the digital age.
