Joint Concert

Concert Types

A performance co-headlined by two or more relatively independent artists or groups, in which each party typically has its own set and may include collaborative segments.

Explanation

联合演唱会 (Joint Concert) is a musical performance co-headlined by two or more relatively independent artists or groups. The performers are typically listed side by side on the promotional billing, each with a set portion of the program, and they establish the overall theme of the concert through duets, ensemble performances, or joint encores.

The key criterion is shared headlining, not the number of artists appearing on stage. A solo concert featuring a guest performer singing two songs, or a group concert featuring individual segments by members, generally does not constitute a Joint Concert; the structure is more accurately described as a joint concert only when the names, performance durations, and promotional prominence of multiple artists are roughly equal. A performance where the opening act is clearly subordinate to the headliner also does not qualify as a joint concert. Joint concerts may be organized by record company, television stations, charitable organizations, brands, or artist management teams; the program may be segmented by artist or feature all participants throughout a single performance. So-called “split concerts,” “double bills,” “three-man live” performances, and cross-band collaboration events may all fall within this category, with specific terminology varying by region and performance tradition.

The distinction between a “Joint Concert” and a “Music Festival” is not determined solely by the number of performers. Music festivals typically bring together multiple performances under a single event brand, spanning multiple stages or dates and forming a cyclical curatorial structure; a 联合演唱会, on the other hand, positions a limited number of co-headliners and the relationships between them as its primary selling point. A special collaborative stage at a music festival can be a joint performance, but that does not mean the entire festival becomes a Joint Concert.

The same 联合演唱会 may later be edited into a release that highlights only one artist. While the title and track listing of an audio-visual release may shift the focus of the viewing experience, the fact that the original live event featured co-headliners should still be determined based on the promotional materials and the complete program at the time.
