About

A Music (Amusic), officially known as A Music Co., Ltd. (East Asia Record Production Co., Ltd.), is an independent pop music record label and artist management company established in Hong Kong, China. In 2004, it was co-founded by renowned Hong Kong artist Leon Lai and Lam Kin-ngok, Chairman of Media Asia Group. As a key strategic move in the music sector for Fengdeli Holdings (Lam Kin-ngok’s family business), Amusic and the contemporaneously established “East Asia Music” share the same equity structure within the Media Asia Group; however, they maintain a completely independent record label approach in music planning, artist development, and day-to-day operations.

As the company’s core leader, Leon Lai deeply integrated his extensive industry experience and personal aesthetic sensibilities into the record label operational framework. In its early days, Amusic’s core music team was led by renowned producer Mark Lui, whose production style was characterized by a strong blend of Hong Kong-style electronic dance music (EDM) and modern urban ballads. The company has moved away from the traditional “mass-production” model of the Hong Kong music industry, opting instead for a highly refined, customized, and enigmatic artist development strategy.

In discovering and developing new talent, Amusic has demonstrated exceptional foresight and market acumen. record label has successfully discovered and launched a new generation of pop singers, including Janice Vidal, Jill Vidal, JW (Wang Hao’er), and Aarif Lee. Among them, Janice Vidal’s promotion is particularly regarded as a classic case study in Hong Kong music industry planning: An initial “mystery marketing” strategy—featuring all-English covers of Leon Lai’s older songs without revealing her face—combined with high-quality recording production and a distinctive Western R&B vocal style, led to unprecedented commercial success for her debut album, effectively filling a stylistic void in the Hong Kong female artist market at the time.

In addition to releasing physical studio albums, Amusic actively positioned itself during the transition to digital music, including early mobile ringtone services and online digital premieres. Furthermore, record label was deeply involved in the production of its artists’ concerts, movie soundtracks, and cross-media entertainment ventures. It is widely acknowledged in the industry that A Music played a pivotal role in the Hong Kong music scene during the mid-to-late 2000s; it not only upheld the high production standards of Hong Kong’s pop music industry but also supplied the local market with a crucial new generation of singers.
