About
B'in Music (B'in Music) is an independent record label and integrated entertainment company based in Taiwan, China, founded in 2006. Its core founders include Chen Yongzhi, a veteran planner who previously served as an executive at the Rock Records Group, and Ashin, the lead singer of Mayday, one of the top rock bands in the Chinese-speaking world. Given its founding background, B'in Music signed several high-profile artists formerly affiliated with the Rock Records system shortly after its establishment.
In terms of record production and its record label DNA, B'in Music has faithfully carried forward the fine traditions of early Rock Records—namely, a “creator-centric” approach and an emphasis on the humanistic and social aspects of music. Its roster is heavily concentrated on singer-songwriters with independent songwriting capabilities and original bands; representative artists include Mayday, Fish Leong, Rene Liu, Ding Dang, Pin Guan, Cosmos People, and, later, Gao Wu Ren.
B'in Music’s most disruptive contribution to the Mandarin-language music industry lies in its creation of a brand-new business model driven by two pillars: “studio album releases” and “large-scale IP-based live concerts.” Against the backdrop of an overall decline in the physical album market, B'in Music established a subsidiary, “B’in Live” (later spun off as an independent publicly traded company), dedicated to concert hardware and visual engineering. This enabled record label not only to control the audio recording specifications for albums but also to produce themed concert tours of the highest professional standards across Asia (such as Mayday’s major world tour series).
This strategy—using large-scale tours to drive consumption of physical and digital albums, and maintaining fan community engagement through frequent live performances—is regarded as one of the most successful record label business models in the 21st-century Mandarin-language pop music industry. The physical albums and high-definition concert video releases (DVD/Blu-ray) published by B'in Music have not only yielded exceptional commercial returns but have also comprehensively documented the historical trajectory of contemporary Mandarin-language pop music’s evolution toward international, large-scale live performances.
