About

Linfair Records (Linfair Records) is one of the oldest local independent record company labels in Taiwan, China. The company was founded by Zhang Renfeng in 1961. For more than two decades after its founding, Linfair Records primarily served as a key introducer of Western classical music and international pop music to Taiwan. record label served as the long-term exclusive agent for the British label Decca Records (Decca Records; consequently, Fumao was often referred to as “Taiwan Decca” in its early days), introducing a vast number of original overseas classical symphonic works, operas, and high-fidelity recordings to Taiwan’s physical record market, thereby establishing a vital acoustic library for Taiwan’s early audiophiles and professional music circles.

In the late 1980s, with the rapid expansion of Taiwan’s domestic pop music (Mandopop) market, Linfair Records officially established its Mandarin Division and shifted its focus to the production and planning of Mandarin pop music. In 1989, the company signed Yu Cheng-heng and subsequently released the album *Let Me Love You to My Heart’s Content*, which achieved astonishing sales in Taiwan, marking Fu Mao’s official entry into the ranks of mainstream pop record labels.

During the golden age of Mandarin pop music from the 1990s to the 2000s, Linfair Records became renowned for its highly precise female artist development strategies and long-term artist cultivation mechanisms. record label successively launched a series of talented singers with distinct personalities, including Fan Xiaoxuan (the early “Little Witch” series and her subsequent transformation), Zhou Hui, Zhang Shaohan, and Guo Jing. In terms of music production, Fumao tended to prioritize emotional narratives that resonated with the public and high-quality melodies (such as Zhang Shaohan’s inspirational pop songs and Zhou Hui’s pure ballads). At the same time, it was a key driving force behind the early careers in Taiwan of male singers such as Leehom Wang and Su Yongkang.

Linfair Records’s operational philosophy is characterized by a strong independent spirit. Even amid the frenzy of large-scale acquisitions of local Taiwanese record label by the world’s top five record company, Fu Mao has maintained an independent capital structure and operational autonomy, while maintaining flexible distribution partnerships with multinational giants such as Universal Music.

Industry analysts view Linfair Records’s groundbreaking history as a complete microcosm of the Taiwanese recording industry’s transition from early reliance on imported overseas copyrights to the establishment of an independent system for exporting popular culture. Its extensive catalog of classical music rights and master recordings of local pop hits collectively form an indispensable and classic segment of the Chinese-language physical music archive.
