About

Seed Music (Seed Music) was a highly representative local independent record label and entertainment record label in Taiwan during the heyday of pop music. The company was founded in 1995 by Tian Dingfeng, a veteran music producer in Taiwan. During a period when the five major multinational record company were engaging in large-scale mergers and acquisitions of local Taiwanese music assets, Seed Music firmly established its position in the Mandarin-language music industry through its flexible artist management capabilities and highly independent production vision.

In its early days, Seed Music’s signature commercial success was signing the “Prince of Love Songs,” Jeff Chang, who was seeking a breakthrough at the time. Albums released by record label, such as *Tolerance* (1995), achieved unprecedented success across Asia with millions of physical copies sold, not only propelling Jeff Chang’s career to the top, but also catapulted Seed Music to instant fame, establishing its exceptionally high industry standards in the production of mainstream commercial love songs in the Chinese-speaking world.

In addition to managing top-tier superstars, Seed Music has also achieved remarkable success in discovering and nurturing a new generation of original artists. In the mid-2000s, record label signed and successfully promoted the singer-songwriter Kenji Wu. Through best-selling albums such as *Big Tongue* and *General’s Order*, which blended Chinese elements with Western pop rock and R&B, Seed Music demonstrated its precise grasp of pop culture trends among the younger generation. In addition, record label has also represented or signed artists such as Hsu Ju-yun, Michael Wong, and Shunzi, among other talented artists. Its operational model typically combines the highly professional planning of a traditional record company with the flexibility and autonomy of an artist-run studio.

As digital music streaming has fully replaced physical media, Seed Music has actively explored copyright agency and a strategy to expand its talent management services into the Greater China region (particularly the mainland Chinese market). Historical research on the music industry indicates that, among medium-to-large independent record label labels, Seed Music has preserved an exceptionally rich collection of master recordings of Mandarin pop classics. Its early release catalog (including cassettes and CDs) serves as a vital commercial archive for observing the transition of Mandarin pop love songs from traditional “ba le” to diverse styles from the late 1990s to the early 2000s.
