About

Wind Music (Wind Music), whose full name is Wind Music International Co., Ltd., is an independent record label based in Taiwan, China, that specializes in the non-mainstream pop genre (particularly world music, folk music, and light music) record label. It was founded in 1988 by veteran musician Yang Jincong. In an era when the mainstream record industry was dominated by insipid music and fast-food-style commercial pop, Wind Music took on the mission of rescuing and preserving the traditional, authentic soundscapes of Taiwan and the Greater China region, thereby establishing its uniquely distinct position within the industry.

In terms of recording aesthetics and physical engineering, Wind Music is a pioneer in Asia for seamlessly integrating “field recording” with “audiophile technology.” Its renowned Indigenous Peoples series, Nature Sounds series (such as *Forest Rhapsody*), and suites of traditional Chinese folk instruments are typically recorded using extremely rigorous, high-end independent microphone arrays in unpolluted natural environments or recording studios with exceptional acoustic specifications. This ultimate reproduction of the source of sound and spatial dynamics has made its CDs, XRCDs, and vinyl records the ultimate reference standard for audiophiles of top-tier audio equipment worldwide.

Wind Music’s commercial release footprint has long extended beyond the Chinese-speaking world. Through deep engagement with global channels such as the Cannes International Music Fair (MIDEM), it has become one of the very few Asian independent companies capable of sustained distribution in the mainstream World Music markets of the United States and Europe, and has made history by earning six Grammy Award nominations.

In the digital age, Wind Music’s vast and meticulously categorized recording catalog has demonstrated astonishing long-tail streaming vitality in the digital lifestyles of modern urbanites—including meditation, yoga, and psychological healing. Music scholars and industry professionals alike unanimously acknowledge that Wind Music’s physical media and high-resolution digital master libraries, spanning more than three decades, are not only a spiritual sanctuary for the Chinese-speaking world in the face of industrial noise pollution, but also a national repository of natural and ethnic acoustic intangible cultural heritage that rivals the world’s top recording archives.
