EMI was a British music group formed through a 1931 merger, whose music business was acquired by Universal Music Group in 2012.
About
Electric and Musical Industries Ltd was formed in March 1931 through the merger of the Columbia Graphophone Company and the Gramophone Company. It later operated as a multinational music group and label conglomerate. aMEI joined its Chinese-language music operation in April 2007. Universal Music Group completed its acquisition of EMI’s music business in 2012, ending EMI’s independent operation as the former group.
