About the artist
Chen Hui-ting was born on April 3, 1978. She is a Taiwanese female singer-songwriter and music producer as well as the lead vocalist and keyboardist of Tizzy Bac. Chen Hui-ting graduated from the Department of French at National Central University and later earned a master's degree from the Graduate Institute of Radio and Television at National Chengchi University.
Chen Hui-ting joined Tizzy Bac in 1999. Recalling the band's first public performance off campus, she said, "I remember that year's Spring Scream was our first public performance. Before that, we had only performed in school music competitions or at presentations of club achievements, so it felt very fresh and fun."
In 2007, Chen Hui-ting won Best Album Producer at the 18th Golden Melody Awards.
The band decided to go on hiatus in 2013, not because of difficulties working together musically or creatively, but because the group needed to recalibrate. Looking back on the decision in an interview with TVBS, Chen Hui-ting said, "We could have dragged things out in that state, but what would have been the point? It was better to take a break. If we kept depleting each other's karmic merit, we might eventually break up for good."
The hiatus led Chen Hui-ting to pursue a solo career. Chen Hui-ting joined Sony Music the following year and subsequently released two entirely self-written solo albums, "21克" and "成人世界." Released in 2014, "21克" earned Chen Hui-ting a nomination for Best New Artist at the 26th Golden Melody Awards; her second solo album, "成人世界," followed in 2015. Discussing her first solo work, Chen Hui-ting described it as the first complete presentation of her inner self and said she also hoped listeners would discover facets of her beyond Tizzy Bac.
Tizzy Bac announced its return in 2017 and released its seventh album, "知人," the following year. Chen Hui-ting also served as a Golden Melody Awards judge in 2017.
Chen Hui-ting later also served as a judge for the Golden Indie Music Awards. A report by the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, Ministry of Culture stated that Chen Hui-ting chaired the jury for that year's awards. Discussing the judging approach, Chen Hui-ting said she hoped to return to music in its purest form and "let the music itself speak," while seeking works with a forward-looking, avant-garde quality.
