In December 1999 the band took part in "西潮", the annual Western-singing contest of the English department of National Central University, the first performance after the band was formed. The next April the band went on stage at 春天吶喊, Tizzy Bac's first formal performance. "Slow Ride" is included on the compilation "崩代記事·貳". In 2002 the band won the top prize, "海洋大赏", at the 3rd Gongliao International Ocean Music Festival. The body of the Chinese Wikipedia writes that drummer 鄭凱同 left in 2002, joined 薄荷葉樂團, and also played drums in 張懸 & Algae, and that drummer 林前源 joined in 2003. The member table of the same article dates 凱同's time in the band to 2000–2003. Thereafter the band was 陳惠婷, lead singer and keyboardist, drummer 林前源, and bassist 許哲毓.

The lineup has no guitarist of the kind common in bands, and uses keyboards, mainly a piano sound, as the melodic centre, making a "piano rock" style. The first album, "什麼事都叫我分心", and still earlier work had a jazz flavour. After drummer 林前源 joined, the style turned mainly to rock. Words and music were mainly by 陳惠婷. The lyrics mostly look at the problems and binds of modern people in life and in love, and the band therefore called itself a "grumbling" band.

In March 2003 Tizzy Bac released the first album, "什麼事都叫我分心", which was chosen among the top ten albums of the year by 中華音樂人交流協會 and was shortlisted for Best Band at the 15th Golden Melody Awards. On February 12, 2004, the EP "查理布朗與露西" was released. In 2005 the band was invited to play at the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, and on August 1 released the EP "夏季熱".

In 2006 the band released the second album, "我想你會變成這樣都是我害的". For this album the band won Best Band at the 7th Chinese Music Media Awards, and this album was also the work that won Best Packaging that year. The band was also shortlisted for Best Band at the 18th Golden Melody Awards. At those Golden Melody Awards, 陳惠婷, 許哲毓, 林前源, the musician 林揮斌 and the singer 許哲珮 together won Best Album Producer. In 2007 the EP "維克多的玫瑰" and the album "聊聊吧 Unplugged" were released. The band has also been invited by 香港阿麥書房, the Esplanade in Singapore, Beijing's MAO Live House and 愚公移山 to hold concerts. "田納西恰恰" is included on "花吃了那女孩 電影原聲帶".

2009 was the band's tenth year. The band began to use "鐵之貝克", the Chinese rendering fans had given it, as the formal Chinese name, and specially made a song of the same name, included on the third album, "如果看見地獄，我就不怕魔鬼". The album tries many instruments and, besides piano, uses various synthesizers to weave the spine of the songs. On October 10 the same year the band held "<你們都不要變>十年有你演唱會" at the Taipei International Convention Center. That year the EP "你們都不要變" was also released.

On May 18, 2011, the band released the album "告密的心", won Best Rock Band at the 2nd Golden Indie Music Awards for it, and was shortlisted for Best Band at the 23rd Golden Melody Awards.

On September 7, 2012, Tizzy Bac took part in the rooftop music festival's special project, the "明天會更好" concert, held at Eslite Xinyi. Admission was free and money was raised on the spot, and the whole of the proceeds was given to 台灣農村陣線, 台灣環境保護聯盟 and 台灣環境資訊協會.

In 2013 the band released the EP "這是因為我們能感到疼痛" and the album "易碎物", and after the promotion of "易碎物" ended announced a one-year break. Drummer 林前源 went to the United States to study for a degree in recording engineering, and lead singer 陳惠婷 joined Sony Music and released a solo album. At the 25th Golden Melody Awards in 2014, "這是因為我們能感到疼痛" was shortlisted for Song of the Year, and was also a shortlisted work for Best Composer, Best Lyricist and Best Single Producer. The band was also shortlisted for Best Band for the album "易碎物".

Central News Agency reported that the band's official Facebook confirmed on January 23, 2018, that bassist 許哲毓 had died.

On October 19 the same year the band released the sixth album, "知人", after an interval of five years, and on December 8 held "Tonight, We'll see, 我所深愛的你《知人》演唱會" at Legacy Max in Taipei. In 2019 the band was shortlisted for Best Band at the 30th Golden Melody Awards for "知人", won Best Band at the 12th Freshmusic Awards, and "我所深愛的人們" was one of the 10 singles of the year. On December 14 the band held "Tizzy Bac 20週年演唱會「鐵之貝克 XX」" at Tianmu Stadium in Taipei, and the live album of the same name was released in 2020. In 2020 the band won Best Band at the 11th 华语金曲奖, and the same year released the EP "穿越光年的孤獨". In 2021 the single of the same name won independent-music song of the year at the 1st PlayMusic Awards.

In 2022 Tizzy Bac released "Human Error", an album four years on. 林前源 said, in a Central News Agency report, that this was the first work the band had completed by the two of them working together after 許哲毓 died, and that they were therefore more careful, and the progress was slowed because of that. In 2023 the EP "甚麼事都叫平凡人分心" was released, and on March 25, 2025, the album "說出我的名字" was released. At the 2026 Hito Pop Music Awards, the single "朝我心臟開槍" was the work that won the Hito arranger award, and the band was shortlisted for Hito's most popular band for "說出我的名字". The same year the band was shortlisted for Best Band at the 37th Golden Melody Awards for this album, and released the live album "說出我的名字 (Acoustic Live)".
