About the artist

左麟右李 is the joint name of Hong Kong singers Alan Tam and Hacken Lee, first used in 2003. Tam has said that the name plays on the Chinese expression 左鄰右里 (“the neighbours”). The two have said several times that 左麟右李 is not a group; in 2015, Tam described it as “more like a show”.

On February 1, 2003, Lunar New Year's Day, “左麟右李演唱會” opened at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Ten shows had been planned, and two matinees were added because of the strong response. Extra shows planned for early April were postponed because of SARS, and six more were added at the end of June, making 18 shows over the two runs. On September 30 that year, the two performed at Shanghai Stadium; in December they toured Guangdong, playing the Shunde Sports Centre (December 6) and Tianhe Stadium in Guangzhou (December 12). The live album “左麟右李演唱會2003” was released by Universal Music in April 2003 and was named one of the Top 10 Best-Selling Cantonese Albums at the IFPI Hong Kong Top Sales Music Awards for 2003.
