About the artist
C AllStar is a Hong Kong four-man group. The members are 吳崇銘 (King), 陳健安 (On 仔), 梁釗峰 (釗峰) and 何建曦 (SoulJase). All four were the last four of "Star Hunt", the singing contest run by Kingdom C, and each was a champion of a different tertiary singing contest. The group came out of that 2009 contest.
Of the four, 吳崇銘 was born August 12, 1985, and graduated from the music department of the private 华联学院 in Guangzhou. 陳健安 was born July 15, 1986, and in 2012 graduated from the School of Nursing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. 梁釗峰 was born August 31, 1986, and in 2010 graduated from the Department of Marketing at City University of Hong Kong. 何建曦 was born February 25, 1990, and in 2012 graduated from the Department of Culture and General Education at the College of International Education, Hong Kong Baptist University.
On when the group formally entered the scene, one place in the Chinese Wikipedia says "formed in 2009, formally joined the scene in 2010". Another place records that this male band formally stepped into the Hong Kong scene in October 2009, with a first radio song "iSing", and a line built on layered forms and live improvisation. The label Kingdom C records joining the scene in 2009.
In 2010 the first album, "Make it Happen", came out, and a signing session was held on March 13. The same year "天梯" was released. "天梯" was chosen among the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs at the 2010 awards. The Chinese Wikipedia records that the group is the only newcomer group in history to receive a Gold Song award, and that the original MV of "天梯" is one of the most-watched Cantonese music videos on YouTube, standing first from 2012 to 2015. At that year's Commercial Radio chart awards, C AllStar was one of the top ten "groups I like most", and "天梯" was also one of the top ten "songs I like most".
On July 24, 2011 the first concert, "C AllStar x HKAO 「80 後管弦時代音樂會」", was held at Sha Tin Town Hall. In mid-2012 the group went with a crew deep into the mountains of Chongqing to film the documentary "天梯", looking for Granny 徐, the woman in the love-ladder story. Kingdom C records that the film was shot on location in June 2012, that it is the first Chinese-language music road documentary, and that it was nominated at different festivals and chosen as an outstanding work. On July 29 the group sang the Kitchee club song "We Are Kitchee!", first played at the Jockey Club Charities Trust Challenge Cup, Kitchee against Arsenal, at Hong Kong Stadium.
In 2013 "她結他", made with junior labelmate SimC, gave the four a first duet prize, Metro Radio Hit's duet song of 2013. In October the same year the album "Cantopopsibility" came out. On March 23, 2014 the first Coliseum concert, "C AllStar 我們的胡士托演唱會", was held.
The Chinese Wikipedia lists the results: the Commercial Radio group gold four times (2011, 2013, 2016, 2021) and the Commercial Radio favourite-group prize four times (2011–2014); the Jade Solid Gold group gold four times (2014–2017); the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs outstanding pop singer prize four times (2012, 2014–2016) and the year's highest-selling group twice (2015, 2018); the Hong Kong record-sales award for the year's highest-selling local group (2014), and others.
In 2017 the group announced a second concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum, and in January the same year announced that it would disband after the October concert.
During COVID-19 the four worked together briefly in April 2020, doing thirty days of live streams on Facebook, "every night at 9:30 in April, keeping you company in isolation", to cheer Hong Kong people staying home. The programme included DJ King's EDM segment and On's "original-people" segment. In August the same year the group built a virtual Hong Kong Coliseum stage and, at the tenth anniversary of debut, held the Minecraft online concert "Make It Happen @ 10 C AllStar Virtual Live". The English Wikipedia records that this was a first in Asia.
On January 25, 2021 the group announced on Facebook that it would work together again formally as a group. On July 24 and 25 the first concert after the return, "C AllStar 集合吧演唱會2021", was held at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom. The Chinese Wikipedia records that after regrouping the group won prizes at the major 2021 awards.
