About the artist
Mr. (Mister) is a Hong Kong band, coming out of Hong Kong independent music, formerly the independent band White Noise.
The five who formed the band are: lead vocal 布志綸 (Alan, born February 29, 1980), who worked in the international department of Universal Music and dealt with radio; rhythm guitar 黎澤恩 (Ronny Lay, born July 11, 1979); bass guitar 譚健文 (Desmond "Dash" Tam, born January 6, 1981), the band's main spokesperson, who introduced Mr. to Alan Tam and to signing with a record company; lead guitar 譚傑明 (Quincy "MJ" Tam, born January 10, 1981); drummer 杜志烜 (Tom To, born December 25, 1987), also the youngest member. 布志綸 met Western music from childhood under a father's influence, graduated from St. Paul's College Primary School in 1992, and finished Form 5 at St. Paul's College in 1997.
The band formally joined the scene on June 10, 2008, and on November 12 the same year debuted at Universal Music Hong Kong with the EP of the same name, "Mister". The English Wikipedia records that the band later released nine full-length studio albums in all. On December 29 the first concert under the name Mr., "Mr. Live Party", was held.
On September 3, 2009 the first studio album, "If I Am...", came out. At the 2009 Commercial Radio chart awards, "If I Were Eason Chan" won the song I like most, and the band won the group I like most.
On March 6 and 7, 2010 the band held a first solo concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum, "Mr. Everyone Concert 01". The English Wikipedia records that this was the first band to hold a concert at that venue after Beyond. Within several years of the 2010s the band held three Coliseum concerts in a row, and the Chinese Wikipedia describes the band as hugely popular for a time. Later the same year "Tonight Tonight" went to radio and reached number one on Metro Radio and on 903's Commercial Radio chart. On October 20 the band and Alan Tam together released the Mandarin-and-Cantonese album "Rolling Power".
On May 16, 2011 the album "People Sing For People" came out. On January 7, 2012 the band received the CASH Best Creative Singer prize at the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards. In March 2012 the studio album "Misterdays", with eight songs, came out. The single "昨天" reached number one and won several year-end prizes. On January 4 and 5, 2013 the large concert "New Beginning Live" was held at the Hong Kong Coliseum. On March 25, 2014 "Fly" was released.
On October 5, 2015 Universal Music and Mr. issued a joint statement that the contract with Mr. would end in mid-2016, and that after it ended the two sides would pause the cooperation. The reason given was "the details of the contract could not be agreed". The English Wikipedia instead records the matter as disputes in 2015 between the band and Universal, and among the members, so that the contract was not renewed, and the contract ended in June 2016.
In 2017 布志綸 signed with 耀榮文化 as a solo artist and began a solo career, and in August the same year released a first solo single, "人在野". In November 2020 布志綸 signed with Sony Music Entertainment, and in 2023 joined 伯樂音樂學院 as a popular-voice tutor. As the lead vocal of Mr., 布志綸 joined the scene in 2008. The Chinese Wikipedia records that 布志綸 performed at the Hong Kong Coliseum four times and released ten albums and EPs.
In 2019 the band regrouped, released two new singles, and on May 16 and 17 held the tenth-anniversary concert Everyone Concert 10.
In 2024 Mr released a new song, "輕狂歲月", again as an independent band. This time it was a four-person activity, and 布志綸 did not take part. 布志綸's own article calls 布志綸 the band's former lead vocal.
